The department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science is an integral part of the B.Sc. Agriculture programme. The department is dedicated to imparting quality education, practical training and research-based knowledge in the field of livestock production and dairy science. It focuses on developing competent graduates equipped with scientific knowledge and technical skills to contribute effectively to the livestock and dairy sectors, which are vital components of the agriculture economy. Key objectives include to provide comprehensive education in animal husbandry and dairy science. To develop practical skills in livestock management and dairy science and to prepare students for entrepreneurship in livestock rearing and dairy enterprise development.

Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science offer a structured curriculum under the B.Sc. Agriculture programme, comprising four core courses distributed across different semesters. These include Livestock production and Management in the II semester, Technology of Milk and Milk Products in the III semester, Livestock breeding and nutrition in the V semester and Sheep, goat and poultry production in the VI semester. In addition to these core courses, skill enhancement courses are also offered to strengthen the practical and entrepreneurial competencies of students. The department is equipped with a well-developed laboratory featuring modern audio-visual teaching aids. It also includes milk and milk product processing facilities with equipment’s and instruments as recommended by the ICAR. For experiential learning, the department regularly conducts livestock practicals at the college dairy farm, where students gain hands-on experience in animal handling and scientific management practices. Additionally dairy processing practicals are conducted in the laboratory to develop skills in milk handling, processing and preparation of dairy products. These academic and practical provisions contribute significantly to enhancing the technical knowledge, skill development and entrepreneurial readiness of students in the field of animal husbandry and dairy science.
