Soil science is the branch of agricultural science. Soil is a basic natural resources which supports to life. Development, conservation and management of the soil sources which are posing serious problems of degradation in several forms such as erosion, pollution, Salinization etc. there by limiting the land area. There for it needs on immediate for sustainable agriculture production to meet food, fuel and fodder demand for increasing population. The main objective of this division is to carry out research on fundamental and applied aspects of the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil; fertilizers and manures and their interaction with soil and plant improvement and maintains of soil fertility for sustained optimum agricultural production, utilization of organic residues as a manures and production of biogas as fuel. To increase the food production is only through appropriate soil management.
The Department of Soil Science is equipped with two state-of-the-art laboratories featuring advanced analysis facilities (required equipment, glassware and chemical) recommended by ICAR. The department regularly analyse samples of soil and water of farmers and give recommendation on report for increasing productivity with maintaining the soil health and publishes informative leaflets and folders to benefit the farming community for every six months.
