The Department of Entomology is one of the major departments in the agricultural stream, functioning under the Plant Protection group. Entomology is a highly technical and systematic discipline with wide scope in the pesticide industry and various corporate sectors. The department primarily focuses on the study of insects, crop pests, and non-insect pests, along with their management using different techniques to enhance both the quantity and quality of agricultural produce. The department is well-equipped with a fully established laboratory, an insect museum, pesticide application equipment, instructional charts, and well-furnished infrastructure facilities that support effective teaching and research activities. In addition, the department is actively involved in pest management and monitoring practices at the D. Y. Patil farm, including the establishment of various types of traps for pest surveillance. It also plays a significant role in knowledge dissemination by delivering expert lectures in various academic programs, including the RAWE program, benefiting both farmers and students. Faculty members serve as Subject Matter Specialists in module-based programs, providing technical expertise. Furthermore, the department extends guidance and support to students preparing for competitive examinations such as JRF, SRF, MCAER, and Agricultural MPSC, thereby contributing to their academic and professional advancement.
